Vintage 1977 Original Joanne Scott Forest / Lake Painting - Retro Psychedelic MCM
Asking $2000 or best offer! This is an extremely rare, original 1977 acrylic painting by California artist Joanne Scott. I could not find any others online, sold in the past or available in the present. Might be a 1 of 1? I’m not sure!
A stunning oversized 61” wide panoramic landscape featuring a silhouetted evergreen forest and setting sun above layered waves of burnt orange, rust, burgundy, brown and gold. An exceptional example of Scott’s unmistakable 1970s modernist style. This is an original painting on stretched canvas, not one of the limited-edition lithographic reproductions more commonly found by the artist. Signed and dated © 1977 Joanne Scott on the front. The reverse retains a vintage Joanne Scott / Westlake Village, California identification label and additional handwritten notation on the stretcher. Joanne Scott is known for highly stylized 1970s landscapes featuring sunsets, silhouetted trees, birds and layered earth-tone color fields.
During extensive research, I was able to locate a number of Scott’s documented works, but I could not locate another example or photograph of this particular forest composition, making it an especially scarce piece to come to market. Beautiful original dark wood frame complements the artwork perfectly.
